Every RSO has history. Here at SASA, we make sure that we always stand by the standards we promised to hold during the creation of this RSO. Above everything, we make sure that we always prioritize our members with whatever we do as we continue to push forward with the discussions against substance abuse.

Established in 2019.Sitting in a Starbucks Coffee Shop in the Summer of 2019, two MSU students named Mohamed Mallah and Jayant Panuganti discussed the prominent topic of substance abuse at MSU, and came up with an idea to allow students to come together and help make a difference. Although the club has made tremendous strides, we never forget our roots and always pay homage to our core ideas.

Our Goal:Here at SASA we try to embody a welcoming atmosphere that promotes exciting discussions of all viewpoints on fresh and relevant topics that apply to the MSU student body as a collective. Seeing that substance abuse is a prominent issue on campus, we try our best to cultivate a fun and enriching experience for our members as they grow and share their diverse and enthralling viewpoints about substances and their prevalence towards the student population.

The Perspectives within Substance Abuse
ScientificOne of the main reasons why substance abuse can be a major issue on college campuses is due to the health impacts that drugs can cause. Diseases such as cancer, cirrhosis, and even forms of brain degradation can potentially occur. During the development of SASA, we discussed how important it was to preach to students about how important this perspective can be, and how it leaks into other important issues regarding substance abuse.
|
Political
In modern day, there are still continuous bills and law proposals that take place considering marijuana, e-Cigarettes, and psychedelics. During SASA meetings, we make sure to include open discussions about whether we think some of these proposed laws would turn out to be more positive or negative in the long run. This side of SASA shows to be really important because laws regarding substance abuse can be extremely influential on changes that are made within our society.
|
Social
During club meetings and events, we make it imperative to try to discuss and talk to one another regarding substance abuse and actions we can all take in order to make a change. At SASA, we welcome students with all sorts of experiences and opinions regarding substance abuse to speak their minds and voice their opinions in order to make sure every voice is heard in order to captivate the subject. During the 2020-21 school year, SASA plans on accommodating for COVID-19 by hosting monthly member meetings to discuss current events regarding substance policy. The SASA team is also working on ways to get involved via social media and social event participation. Whether those will be online or not will be determined soon!
