What we're all about..
SASA is a personal support group for people that want to share and learn about past experiences with substance abuse in a fun and interactive way that incorporates volunteering and other forms of community involvement. We are dedicated to providing a platform for discussion about substance abuse and its impact on modern humanity in the 21st century.

Nicotine
Although tobacco cigarettes are still a very prominent problem in our society, SASA also tries to focus on debatable discussions involving e-Cigarettes, and whether these have negatively or positively impacted our society in response to cigarette addiction.
Opioids.Roughly 21 to 29 percent of patients prescribed opioids for chronic pain misuse them. Between 8 and 12 percent develop an opioid use disorder. An estimated 4 to 6 percent who misuse prescription opioids transition to heroin. Let's avoid that transition.

Alcohol
In 2018, 26.45 percent of people ages 18 or older reported that they engaged in binge drinking in the past month; 6.6 percent reported that they engaged in heavy alcohol use in the past month. At SASA, we strive to make a difference regarding these statistics.
Other Drugs that We Discuss..At SASA, we also discuss the impacts of prominent drugs in our societies such as marijuana, prescription drugs, and psilocybin (mushrooms), and we see how even the most varying drugs can connect to the same discussion.

We are a team against substance abuse, NOT substance use. Here at SASA, we understand that some substances are okay if used in moderation and in the correct way, and we make sure to discuss the differences between substance use and abuse.
Fun Combined with the Fight!
Here at SASA, we try to offer many activities and events throughout the year, such as interactive biweekly meetings, science experiments, and many enjoyable activities that are organized to help professional drug abuse organizations beyond MSU.

Although we are dealing with difficult circumstances right now considering COVID-19 plaguing the world, we must keep fighting the war against substance abuse as mental health issues and contributing factors to substance abuse continue to rise. Keep updated on our social media pages to learn more about how we can all make a difference online and about our future Zoom meetings!
